Reinvention

Have you recently made a decision to pivot in your career? Or, maybe you’ve been thinking about making a change but feel stuck. This is a critical choice point, and often a lonely one. The decisions don’t come easily, and often you must walk this path without sharing your plans with your current employer.

You may be wondering:

What are my greatest abilities?

What values do I want to protect in a new role?

What would constitute fulfilling work?

What are my options at this stage in my career?

What do I need to learn or develop in order to be successful?

Fresh insight and a vision of the future are crucial at this juncture, but our perspectives are mostly rooted in the past. I am an experienced re-inventor, and I’m passionate about helping people shape their next act. This typically involves a 3-step process:

Step 1: Insight

What Are My Strengths? What Do I Care About?

Complete and debrief assessments to explore your strengths and values.

Inquire deeply into your preferences.

Step 2: Vision

Where Do I Want to Go? How Will I Get There?

Dream big, brainstorming the possibilities.

Build a future vision.

Set clear goals.

Carve a strategic path forward.

Step 3: Change

What Action Will I Take Today?

Flesh out your strategy with a detailed action plan.

Address blocks and potential derailers.

Fine-tune the trajectory as you stay the course.

In the change phase, where the rubber meets the road, we review progress on a regular basis to help you stay on track and break through obstacles. Accountability is the “secret sauce” to reaching your goals. As in the sports world, being accountable to a coach helps create a laser focus, turbocharges motivation, and keeps your new agenda front and center.

Retirement

Some people might sail into retirement, but many leaders tell me they face this new phase of life with considerable trepidation, wondering:

How will I spend my time?

Where will I find meaning and purpose?

Will I become unimportant? Will people stop looking to me?

How will I keep learning and stay fresh?

Should I retire fully or develop a part-time platform?

Moreover, as retirement approaches there are a host of important issues that need attention, especially your succession and legacy.

This is a time of life when we need innovative thinking, which is tough to come by on our own. Our minds are shaped by our past experience, and we don’t know what is ahead.

If you are approaching retirement and share these common concerns and needs, I would be delighted to assist you in gathering the insight and vision needed to move forward with confidence and relish. That is exactly what professional coaches do best.

I offer 2 options to support people contemplating retirement:

1

VIP DAY

Prepare by completing assessments of your values and interests.

Invest a day in understanding your motivations and options:

Debrief the assessments: what do you care about most now; what gives you energy and purpose?

Brainstorm & evaluate a set of options that fit who you are becoming.

Select a limited number of options to pursue more deeply; create an action plan and timeline to guide your next steps. Emerge with new insight, energy, and a plan to move forward.

2

STRATEGIC RETIREMENT PLAN

Time and again you have invested in creating strategic plans for your organization. Now it’s time to invest in your own strategic plan. You have earned a great retirement; let’s work together to make it happen!

In this 3-step process, I will be your partner in 1) shaping a clear and compelling direction for your retirement and 2) addressing succession and legacy.

Step 1: Insight

You will prepare by completing assessments of your values and interests.

Over several conversations, we will debrief the assessments, explore your motivations, and bring into focus your hopes and concerns about retirement.

Step 2: Vision

We’ll start by establishing a vision of what legacy you want to leave behind, and how you expect to identify your successor (unless a succession process is already in place)

Next, we will brainstorm the possibilities for your retirement, define a set of options, and evaluate their pros and cons.

This step will culminate in a vision for how you want to live the first 5 years of your retirement.

Step 3: Change

I will partner with you to create an action plan with clear steps for how to translate your vision into reality.

We will identify and address potential roadblocks.

You will formulate a communication plan: who needs to know what and when?

A retirement strategic plan typically unfolds over 8 to 12 one-hour coaching sessions. If desired, we can continue with ongoing coaching support through your transition, meeting regularly (typically twice per month) to build new ideas, shape the path forward, overcome obstacles, and maintain momentum.

If you relate to these challenges and are thinking about putting a coach in your corner, let’s start a conversation.
